Don’t Forget About Your Husband – Instead, shower him with love!

0

My husband is incredible, and I love him very much. While I tell him this often, having three kids three and under makes it hard to put each other first most of the time. We all know that a hungry or crying kid gets our attention before our spouse during those moments! My husband and I try our best and fit in time for us whenever possible.

During the Christmas season, I decided to shower my husband with “25 Days of I Love You” to make him feel extra special. I did something similar for the seven days leading up to Valentine’s Day a few years ago (prior to having kids) so I thought I would try something similar. Even though Christmas is over, Valentine’s Day will be here soon so I thought I would share this idea. This is easily adaptable for a birthday, any holiday, or just because!

Each day or evening after work, I gave him a post-it that said “Day 1” followed by his “gift” written down for that day. I didn’t want to just BUY him things each day but rather show how much I love him and think of him. Some of the ideas were more involved than others, while some were VERY simple.

I made a list with all 25 dates leading up to Christmas. First, I filled in any dates that I knew of specific things we were doing (ex: Packer Game, friends’ party, etc). Then, I worked a few days in advance to determine what I planned to do for him. That way I could get anything I needed while I was out and didn’t have to plan last minute (too many times) or make unexpected trips out of the house. I searched Pinterest for extra ideas and adapted them to what would work well for us.

Here are some ideas (some I used, some I didn’t) –

-Date Night out – just us

-Date Night out – with friends

-Date Night in – After the kids were in bed, we had wine, cheese, & chocolate while watching our favorite shows together (no electronic distractions allowed).

-Bring coffee home for him.

-Updated kid photos for his office

-Photo of him & I for his office

-De-clutter any area that may bug him

-Breakfast in bed

-Watercolor painting with his work logo for his office (painted by our kids)

-Bake (or buy) his favorite dessert

-Lottery tickets

-Case of beer (Any beverage or snack would work)

-Movie/TV night – HIS pick

-Let him sleep in on the weekend

-Night “off” from doing kid chores (I took care of the dishes, sweeping, picking up toys, etc)

-Cook his favorite meal

-Packer game

-Back massage

-Have him schedule a guy’s night out

-Post-it love notes all over the house in places only he would find them

-Warm towel after his shower, get coffee & his breakfast ready for him

-Ice cream

-Welcome home sign & greeting from the kids when he gets home from work

-Annual family drive around the area to see Christmas lights – pjs & popcorn for the kids, & Starbucks for us

-Clean & organize kitchen cupboards (could do ANY space in your home)

-Write him a letter

-Small stocking items on Christmas

Of course, I won’t include EVERY idea I used, but I will say it was an enjoyable month. My husband definitely felt the love, and I did too!

On the day I planned for him to sleep in, I wasn’t feeling well so he actually let ME sleep in instead! He also did many thoughtful things for me throughout the month just because. It is a fun way to make sure I was regularly letting him know how important he is to our family and me.

When my husband was solely in charge of the remote for our TV night, he chose a show I wouldn’t have normally been interested in watching. Well, it turned out we both enjoyed it, and we are now on Season 4 of the show!

While all of the acts of love were pretty small (for the most part), the month was a great reminder for us to make sure we are consciously thinking of the other AND showing it too! Since the 25 days, we have both continued to do little things here and there to go out of our way to make the other smile (more than our usual).

Now, who is ready to shower their spouse with 7 days of I Love You for Valentine’s Day?? OR as many days as you would like for any occasion you would like! If you aren’t feeling creative, I can think of an act of love that your spouse wouldn’t mind having repeated for 7 days… Regardless of what you choose, I know your spouse will feel appreciated and loved!
