It’s overwhelming to hear a doctor diagnose your child with autism. Even if you expect it, the word feels heavy. I felt like my head was spinning when my son was diagnosed with autism in 2014. Stacks of paperwork were dropped in our laps and decisions had to be made. We stumbled our way through those first few months until we acclimated to our new therapy routine. Our daughter was diagnosed with autism the following year. With a strong support system in place, the diagnosis wasn’t as scary the second time around.
