Mom Hack – Making Breakfast Easier

0

I am all for anything that will save time or make my life easier these days. It’s amazing how many things I *think* I will accomplish until all of the mundane day to day household and family responsibilities get in the way. Don’t get me wrong, I would much rather read stories and build towers with my kids than do dishes and laundry, but we do need clean dishes and clothes too. When I find a mom hack that works for us, I run with it.

While this is not my own original idea, I wanted to share it because I think you should try it too – cooking “hard boiled” eggs in the oven instead of actually boiling them.

This idea seemed to be suggested on TV, Facebook, Pinterest, etc., but I was skeptical at first. Once I finally tried it, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to boiling an egg again. Your oven does the work for you, while you can accomplish other stuff.

I usually set the oven to 350 degrees before my kids even get out of bed or begin breakfast. The whole eggs (you don’t have to do a thing to them) go in a muffin tin and cook for 30 minutes. My oven seems to cook them best (without any of them cracking) for 28 minutes, regardless of whether I make eight or a full dozen eggs. 30 minutes was the original cooking time suggestion. I make an ice bath (bowl filled with ice and water) for them before they even go in the oven and keep that in the refrigerator during the cooking time. That way, by the middle or end of breakfast, the timer I have usually forgotten was even on, beeps, and I am ready to move the eggs to the ice water to stop cooking. I let them cool until the ice melts, and they are ready to eat.

My mom thinks this cooking method makes them a little rubbery, in case you are a hard boiled egg aficionado. My kids are NOT so we all like them, and peeling an egg is MUCH faster than cooking up eggs in a frying pan each day. It also makes a quick snack full of protein.

This method may not be for everyone, but it works well for my family. Try it and share how it worked for you.
